Beneficiaries: the popolation of the municipality of Makala (235,000 inhabitants) in the Province of Kinshasa

Background: To meet the needs of the population of the area of Kinshasa the BDMO (Bureau diocesain des oeuvres medicales) decided to transform the Ngonde "Centré Santé" Maria in in to an hospital with a maternity unit, and ophthalmologic and surgical operating rooms for surgical interventions.

Description: The "Centre de Santé Ngondo Mary" carried out so far different health services: general medical visits, prenatal and postnatal care, medications, clinical analysis, pharmacy and hospital with 15 beds. There was also service for malnourished children, and a nutritional services of "dépistage" care for tuberculosis and AIDS, diabetics diseases and eye. For a year the service also operates blood transfusion for bleeding from childbirth, but also to save for children with anemia due to malaria and malnutrition.
The expansion involves the construction of the structure of a division with 30 maternity beds (completed in November 2008) and a block with two operating rooms (2009/2010) and various departments (ophthalmology, physiotherapy, etc.)
