Our activities in Italy

Dokita’s activities in Italy are carried out by national headquarters, branch offices and regional associations. In this area volunteers play a key role: they promote and carry out many of the activities. In addition to the various projects organized by the volunteers, worthy of emphasis are the endeavors of headquarters in Rome, where the coordination office, the office for cooperation projects, the website and the magazine offices, the Fundraising office and the training headquarters are located.

Projects in Italy

Vocational training

Ever since 2003 DOKITA has been certified by the Lazio Region for vocational training and orientation, and is therefore authorized to run training courses. The training is aimed, in particular, towards the acquisition of skills easily spendable on the labor market and is primarily addressed to disadvantaged people (unemployed persons, school drop-outs, women, immigrants, disabled persons and the elderly). The courses are held mainly under contract with local authorities and usually within the ambit of the European Social Funds.

Support and assistance for elderly

Many volunteers provide assistance and support to frail elderly people at home and sick in hospital..

Collection and shipments of goods

The activity is conducted by a team composed of a dozen volunteers. This is a very important activity to several factors: it allows the recovery of equipment, materials, medicines etc.. still good, useful reusable; allow the volunteers to join a gesture of solidarity and sharing in common with those who are in need; represents a cost savings because the reuse of goods still useble excludes the purchase of new ones:
The most salient activities related to the collection are:

• collecting, registration, control, selection, preparation for shipment of medicines

• collecting clothing, new and used, control, washing, ironing, sorting by size and season, preparation for shipment.

• preparation for shipment by air and preparation of cargo containers and trucks

During the Kosovo crisis the headquarters of Dokita had become national head office for the collection of goods for Kosovar refugees in Albania.

Is one of the priority activities for the growth of our members and volunteers and give us the opportunity to respond to our educational mission and training. The activities are conducted by meetings, seminars, campaigns of opinion for a culture of peace and solidarity and development education in schools of all levels.

Pubblications

We produce and distribute a magazine on the themes of solidarity and international cooperation, with a circulation of close to 5,000 copies. The magazine now superseded No 80 and wants to be an instrument of information, training and reflection to readers and friends supporters. The editorial office in Rome also produces exhibitions (photography, video and multimedia) to illustrate current issues and activities in progress.

Promotion of Remote Support

The headquarters of our association in Rome are responsible for the section SAD (Remote Support) and promote solidarity in Italian communities involving them to support individuals, families and communities in developing countries to improve their living conditions and health.

Network

The headquarters in Rome and the branch offices encourage cooperation with local authorities, regional and provincial and with territorial associations in the fight against poverty in the world with concerted efforts of decentralized cooperation.

field-work studies and travel studies

Two important initiatives for personal  and associative growth. Field-work and travel-studies in countries in which projects are underway stimulate the knowledge and awareness of other cultures, other realities, foster diversity, promote interculturalism and share issues. Initiatives which should in help provide a solution to some of the needs identified in the visited population.
