Association of Volunteer Dokita, last October, has opened a new office in Honduras, the second poorest country in Latin America. In 2011 the first projects will begin to give concrete help to the populations most in need.
The first areas of intervention will be the marginal areas of the capital Tegucigalpa, areas characterized by extreme poverty, social exclusion and highly prone to natural disasters like hurricanes or floods. The first community that will be the subject of intervention is Cataluña and the slums of Emanuel Fuerza Unidas. These communities, in addition to being subject to post-disaster environmental problems, suffer from lack of drinking water and sanitation /hygiene problems. In fact, the main issues that will be covered are: health and water, as well as the prevention from natural disasters.
