April 2011 - Start of activities provided by the new Pigmy project

Official start of the activities provided by the project "pre-schooling and vocational training of Pygmies and Bantu in the Department of Ocean."

The project, whose area of intervention consists of 10 Pygmies (ethnic-BaGyeli Bakola) and Bantu quarters/villages , in the districts of Lolodorf, Bipindi, II Kribi, Campo-Ma'an and Akom II, Department of 'Ocean, in the South Region of Cameroon is co-financed by the CEI (Italian Episcopal Conference) and has a duration of 24 months. Its objective is to promote the socio-economic and cultural integration between Pygmies and Bantu, and in particular to promote: the equal access of Pygmies and Bantu children to pre schooling; vocational training of adults; the startup of productive and associative activities for the adults.

All this through the implementation of joint activities aimed at ensuring support for pre schooling of children and adult vocational training, by initiating income generating activities and establishing the Community of Rural Action (CAR) targeted to the management of common goods in a cooperative logic, and activities made by the project. The project is also intended to involve the Local Authorities for the formal recognition of the CAR, and the administrative integration of the small rural pre-schools into the national education system.
